I guess it woudl also depend on the baffles in your sump. YOu wouldn't want your skimmer in the first section but could you not create a stable level in your second section by having an overflow on either side with the return pump and the variable water levels in the last section? But maybe... -

I'm probably one of the few that doesn't have an apex, never really felt the need for one. And my top-off isn't triggered by water level, I have it dosing at regular intervals based on historical evaporation rates. However some leak detectors would be a good idea lol.- Andrew D

Thanks Steve. Yeah, it's been a while so I'm sure the technology and process is easier now. My tank is pretty big with a hefty alk demand so the cost of a CR is likely prohibitive not to mention the space it would require. Wow, thanks for sharing Steve. It sounds very complicated and potentially difficult to keep tuned. I tried a calcium reactor many years ago on my smaller tank and never liked the fine tuning it required so have ben dosing b-ionic ever since. I'm like you Cliff. Although many say I too have OCD I've never really worried about tank temperature. The key for me though is that I don't have an apex or any sort of monitoring system so I am blissfully ignorant. YOu can't fuss over what you don't know lol.- Andrew D
