    Clean in Place (CIP) Sump

I guess it woudl also depend on the baffles in your sump. YOu wouldn't want your skimmer in the first section but could you not create a stable level in your second section by having an overflow on either side with the return pump and the variable water levels in the last section? But maybe...

    Cliff’s in wall reef

I'm probably one of the few that doesn't have an apex, never really felt the need for one. And my top-off isn't triggered by water level, I have it dosing at regular intervals based on historical evaporation rates. However some leak detectors would be a good idea lol.

    Cliff’s in wall reef

Funny you should say that Luke. We were out of the house for most of the summer with a main floor reno and I'm now working up north 4 days/week and my tank has never looked better. Lots of growth, with the only losses really due to over crowding. Had a scare the other week though, my daughter...

    The Holy grail for dosing

Thanks Steve. Yeah, it's been a while so I'm sure the technology and process is easier now. My tank is pretty big with a hefty alk demand so the cost of a CR is likely prohibitive not to mention the space it would require. I will look into dosing kalk though, either to replace my top-off or...

    The Holy grail for dosing

Wow, thanks for sharing Steve. It sounds very complicated and potentially difficult to keep tuned. I tried a calcium reactor many years ago on my smaller tank and never liked the fine tuning it required so have ben dosing b-ionic ever since. Expensive but as idiot proof I think as you can...

    Bleaching a Reef system

Just catching up on all I've been missing, and I'm shocked that you're having to do this. Very brave indeed. Hey, I always heard that you can't mix bleach and vinegar so whatever you do make sure it's well rinsed before you do. I can't advise on the rest as I've never done this before and...

    water temperature

I'm like you Cliff. Although many say I too have OCD I've never really worried about tank temperature. The key for me though is that I don't have an apex or any sort of monitoring system so I am blissfully ignorant. YOu can't fuss over what you don't know lol.

    LED light feedback

Hey there. One of the channels in the viparspectra over my anemone tank stopped working after only 14 days operation, piece of crap. I know some swear by these things but I've had nothing but problems with them, and the low price doesn't matter if they don't work. I got it off amazon so I...

sorry, I don't know your wife, but mine says the same thing about me, especially the care I take within a hobby that she knows or cares nothing about

DIY Budget ATO and Water Change Refill

I've used something similar for my top-off for years now. I have a 30G tank with RO water beside the display and a small magdrive on a timer which pushes water into the display 3 times a day. I had to make some adjustments at the beginning using not only the timer but also a ball valve on the...

    water temperature

I didn't want to take Luke's thread in a different direction, but thought that I'd ask the wise and experienced how important they consider water temperature. I know like all things stability is key, so I'm asking more about the actual temperature. Myself I keep my tank relatively cool (mid...

Heating my tank with my Natural gas Hot Water tank!!!

This is great Luke, I love this sort of innovative problem solving. Pardon my denseness here, but in terms of water flow, you are pulling water from the hot side of the water tank, cycling it through the sump and then returning it to the cold side? Also, would this work on a tankless water...
