    Salinity and fish

well, in my experience the best way is to QT it in a tank without fresh water top-off, it will rise slowly and naturally. Might take a couple of weeks, but you can quicken it with small water changes using tank water at sea level salinity. I don't typically QT as long as many recommend, but I...

    Salt recommendation?

Hey everyone. I know this is a tired topic but it's been a while since I've had to switch salts and in doing my research I thought I'd start here with folks who's thriving tanks I've seen. I've been using H2O for a while, really liked it's consistency and also the fact that it mixes to a low...

    Luke's 220

I thought about one of these myself a few years back, decided to install 2 heavy duty bathroom fans instead to vent my fish room. Seems to be working fine but it probably explains the heavy draft I feel around the door and my exterior way electrical outlets. Air needs to come in somewhere I guess.

    6" Hippo tang

very nice fish Luigi, don't usually see one that large without tell-tale pockmarks of HLLE

    Dinoflagellates - ewww

That sucks. I've never had them (knock on wood) but there are lots of threads on other forums of people trying different things. One thing that I hear consistently is that they are fueled by water changes. Good luck!

    Luke's 220

That's definitely a biggie. I never replaced my turbos when they died, great for algae but quite disruptive to corals. I stick with astreas now. And Ocean Abyss, I remember stopping by their garage store on my way home from work in Hamilton....

A little brag after a few years

very nice Luigi. I've had different kinds of polyps over the years, some exploded and became a problem, others just died away. Can't explain the difference. Those ones I;'ve not personally had luck with.

I have never seen this before

sorry, I hope I didn't offend, I wasn't meaning this to you. Sorry, I guess on re-reading it might be interpretted other than I intended. Argh, shouldn't type after a long aggravating day at work!

I have never seen this before

I've never checked my fish to see if this was done to them, never thought to do that. I guess it's no crueler than de-clawing a cat. Oh wait, that's not done anymore, is it? What might the human analogy be, a lobotomy for the angry or cutting the tongue off the sharp-witted? This is a...

Anyone want to try free green pocillopora?

Maybe, but anyone that has had pocci knows how bad this stuff can become in a tank. I can't remember if/when I added it but it's sprouting everywhere on me, and I haev to routine kalk and suction it out to avoid it crowding my nicer corals. Yes it looks nice but not when it's everywhere lol.

I have never seen this before

interesting, I've never heard of people taking the barb off the tail. Seems cruel to me. How would you even do this?

    Frag tank challenges and options

Yeah, if you have the space then plumbing it together makes a lot of sense. I thought I'd try it stand alone but honestly don't have the patience or fortitude to keep it up and to use a frag system properly you need to have confidence that it will not only maintain but also grow your frags and...

    Frag tank challenges and options

Thanks everyone. When I set it up again I'll probably plumb it into the main display. The location isn't ideal though, so I'll unfortunately have my frag tank return to my sump through a pipe that spans across the floor at about knee height. A bit of a hazard, but I'll try to place it as far...

    Frag tank challenges and options

Hi everyone. Curious who has experience with maintaining a separate frag tank or system, and how they've set it up. I bought a custom 48*24*12 inch tank (about 70 gallons), and for the last three months have had lots of challenges and issues with it as a standalone system. I set up a...

What’s wrong with this parrotfish ?

Not sure, but I have to say I've not see one of these in a home reef before. brave of you, given (I think) how large and disruptive they can become...

    internal overflow box needed

And that's what makes this forum unique! Thanks for the helpful hint Luke, I was aware of the connection and the reputation! I've followed Mr. Wilson for a while now, back to his posts on Nineball's build thread's on reefcentral. Shawn, how much for the smaller one?

    internal overflow box needed

Hi everyone. I'm looking for an internal overflow box, shape doesn't matter as long as the holes for the drain are on the back not the bottom. ANyone have one to spare?
