Big issues need advice
i had a similar issue many years ago as the salinity was 1.032 only certain corals thrived everything else suffered took a couple months to realize the refractometer was calibrated wrong, as it was always reading 1.025. simple issues create major problems if not resolved- Limey

Overflow
I used to use the durso but found difficult to keep full syphon lots of surges and gurgling very frustrating to balance. So last 10 years or so i have used a herbie with an oh shit relief pipe which has actually been utilized about 3 times in past 10 years after a snail or two when for at walk...- Limey
